Clear Blue Sky Productions, Killer Films and Renaissance Films Announce
THE SAFETY OF OBJECTS

Glenn Close, Dermot Mulroney to Star, Rose Troche to Direct

SEATTLE – Sept. 1, 2000 – Clear Blue Sky Productions, Killer Films and Renaissance Films today announced their first joint motion picture project, THE SAFETY OF OBJECTS. The film, adapted for the screen by director Rose Troche (GO FISH, BEDROOMS AND HALLWAYS), is based on the critically acclaimed A. M. Homes short stories, which chronicle bittersweet modern day angst in suburbia.

An outstanding cast is attached to the project including Glenn Close, Dermot Mulroney, Timothy Olyphant and Patricia Clarkson. The film will start its 8-week shoot in Toronto and New York in mid-September. THE SAFETY OF OBJECTS will be produced by Dorothy Berwin of In Film (BEDROOMS AND HALLWAYS) and Christine Vachon of Killer Films (BOYS DON’T CRY). Jody Patton (TITUS) will executive produce for Clear Blue Sky Productions alongside Stephen Evans and Angus Finney of Renaissance Films.

THE SAFETY OF OBJECTS, the first co-production by the three companies, is part of Clear Blue Sky Productions’ five-picture deal with Renaissance Films, and CBSP’s general development and production deal with Killer Films. Clear Blue Sky and Renaissance’s first collaboration, THE LUZHIN DEFENSE, debuts in September at the Toronto International Film Festival. The film was directed by Marleen Gorris (ANTONIA’S LINE) and stars John Turturro and Emily Watson. The film is being distributed in the US by Sony Pictures Classics.

All international sales for THE SAFETY OF OBJECTS will be handled by Renaissance Films.

ABOUT KILLER FILMS

Killer Films is one of the industry's premiere independent feature film production companies. Founded in 1996 by Christine Vachon and Pamela Koffler to produce quality, director-driven films, it's credits include BOYS DON’T CRY, HAPPINESS, VELVET GOLDMINE, I SHOT ANDY WARHOLD and SAFE. In addition to their development and production deal with CBSP, in recent months, Killer also established an overhead and development deal with John Wells Productions (television's ER and West Wing). Killer's latest project, the reality TV based satire 'Series 7,' will
be released by USA Films in early 2001. They are currently in production on Todd Solondz' next feature film for New Line and Good Machine International.

ABOUT RENAISSANCE FILMS

Renaissance Films, headed up by Evans and Joint MD Angus Finney, spans development, production, financing and sales, as well as UK distribution through an output deal with the territory’s leading independent, Entertainment Film Distributors. Renaissance aims to produce up to two projects a year in-house, executive or acquire up to 20 over five years, and pick up the remainder for sales only. The first sales pick-up, UK rave culture picture HUMAN TRAFFIC, contrasts with Evans’ reputation for upscale period pieces such as THE WINGS OF THE DOVE, THE MADNESS OF KING GEORGE, MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING and HENRY V. HUMAN TRAFFIC has sold well to date, including a deal with Miramax for North America.
