Aside from a love for hoops, it would seem that Lucas (Chad Michael Murray, “Dawson’s Creek,” “A Cinderella Story”) and Nathan (James Lafferty, “A Season on the Brink”) are two
young men with little in common, but they are bound by the dark secret that they share the same father (Paul Johannson, “Beverly Hills 90210”). Nathan is the star of the high school basketball team and local town hero while Lucas is the only child of a single working mom (Moira Kelly, “The West Wing”). Now the two boys’
lives collide when a twist of fate puts Lucas on Nathan’s team and the half-brothers compete, not only for control of the court, but also for the heart of Nathan’s beautiful girlfriend Peyton (Hilarie Burton). NOTE: The series One Tree Hill, was originally scheduled to debut midseason on the WB but was shifted to fall when replacing new series Fearless, which had production problems and was not able to bow out in time for fall. Production on this new series began on August 12, 2003 on the first episode after the pilot. This episode did not feature the regular opening credits for "One Tree Hill" One Tree Hill was originally called Ravens (the basketball team mascot). The episode featured music from Jet's album "Get Born" This episode featued music from T.I.'s album "Trap Muzik". The episode featured music from Saliva's album "Back in Your System". This episode featured music from Dashboard Confessional's album "A Mark, A Mission, A Brand, A Scar". In the original pilot, Lucas Scott's best friend was named Reagan and played by Samantha Shelton, but then after the show was added to the fall schedule, the character was renamed to Haley James and was recasted. Meanwhile, Keith (Craig Sheffer) forces Karen (Moira Kelly) to deal with her feelings for Dan (Paul Johansson) after she refuses to step foot in the high school gym to support her son. When Lucas sees the wealth that was denied him, he finally confronts his mother (Moira Kelly) about why she let Dan (Paul Johansson) ignore them. Injured during the game, Brooke (Sophia Bush) needs Peyton (Hilarie Burton) to drive her home and in, an unlikely turn of events, Peyton asks Haley (Bethany Joy Lenz) for help. After Brooke calls Lucas (Chad Michael Murray) for help, the two bond over caring for a sleeping Peyton, prompting Lucas to look at Brooke in a new light. However, he isn’t prepared for the destruction the drugs do to both his body and his family. Meanwhile, Peyton (Hilarie Burton) goes to Lucas (Chad Michael Murray) to rekindle their relationship, but when she arrives at his house, she catches him with Brooke (Sophia Bush). Meanwhile, an unexpected visit from Dan's parents (guest stars Gerald McRainey, Tess Harper) leaves the Scott family in turmoil as numerous family secrets are revealed at Dan's birthday dinner.

Meanwhile, Peyton decides to tell Brooke about the kiss she and Lucas shared.

Meanwhile, Whitey learns that his medical condition may be more serious than he first expected, and Dan learns a shocking secret from Deb.
